Profound AI review: the GEO tracking tool under the microscope
Copy for AI
Profound is an AI visibility tool that measures how often and in what way your brand shows up in the answers of AI search engines such as ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. It is one of the better-known players in the GEO market, with a strong enterprise focus. In this Profound AI review you will read what the tool actually does, an indication of what it costs, where its strengths and weaknesses lie, and for which type of company it is or is not the right choice. Honest upfront: we did not test Profound ourselves in production for months, so this review is based on publicly available information and on our own experience with GEO for B2B clients.
What exactly is Profound?
Profound is a software platform that monitors your brand’s visibility in AI-generated answers. Instead of tracking classic Google positions, Profound runs a set of questions (prompts) through various answer engines every day and analyses whether, how and in what context your brand is mentioned. Think of questions like “what is the best supplier of X” or “which tools exist for Y”.
The tool measures things like how often you are mentioned, which sources the AI cites, how your brand is positioned against competitors and what tone (sentiment) is attached to it. The idea is that you gain a grip on a channel that classic SEO tools do not show you. What features does Profound offer?
The core of Profound consists of a number of modules that together map your AI visibility. Based on the public product information, these are the most important ones.
- Answer Engine Insights: monitors how AI displays your brand in answers across different platforms, including mentions, citations and comparison with competitors.
- Agent Analytics: shows how AI crawlers such as those of ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity visit and interpret your website, so you can make technical improvements.
- Prompt management: you can add, adjust or disable your own prompts to tune the tracking to the questions that are relevant for your market.
- Prompt Volumes: gives insight into what people are asking AI en masse, so you can aim your strategy at real demand.
- Agents: a set of autonomous AI assistants for tasks such as generating AEO-optimised FAQs and content. These are billed separately based on credits.
According to its own communication, Profound covers a broad range of answer engines, including ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Claude, Microsoft Copilot and a few others. Which ones you actually track depends on your subscription.
What does Profound cost?
Profound works with a tiered pricing model where the entry level sits around 99 dollars per month, but that rate only covers ChatGPT tracking. On the official pricing page there are, at the time of writing, three levels.
- Starter: around 99 dollars per month (billed annually) for 50 prompts and one answer engine, namely ChatGPT.
- Growth: around 399 dollars per month (billed annually) for 100 prompts and three answer engines: ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews.
- Enterprise: price on request, with custom work on prompts, more answer engines and things like SSO and compliance certificates.
Important to know: prices of AI tools change fast, so always check the current rates at the source itself before you decide. The Agents module is also billed separately via a credit system. For a serious B2B measurement across multiple AI platforms, you therefore quickly end up in the higher subscriptions, not at the entry rate. That is not a criticism of Profound as such, but a reality of the entire category: solid AI visibility tracking costs money.
Who is Profound suitable for?
Profound is mainly interesting for larger organisations and marketing teams that want to track AI visibility structurally and have the budget for it. The compliance features, the broad range of answer engines and the reporting options clearly point to an enterprise audience. If you work at or for a brand that appears in many AI answers and you want to monitor that down to the prompt level, a tool like Profound delivers valuable data.
For small B2B companies or freelancers, the picture is more nuanced. The entry rate only tracks ChatGPT, while your audience may search precisely via Perplexity or Google AI Overviews. And a dashboard full of numbers is only useful if you actually do something with it. With our clients, we see that the gain does not lie in the tool itself, but in what you do with the insights. What are the strengths and weaknesses?
Profound’s biggest strength is its depth: it measures not only whether you are mentioned, but also in what context, with which sources and against which competitors. The combination of visibility data and crawler analysis (Agent Analytics) gives a fairly complete picture of both the demand side and the technical side of AI findability.
The main points of attention are price and focus. The real work sits behind the entry rate, and for a full multi-engine measurement you pay a lot. In addition, it is a measurement tool, not a solution. Profound tells you where you stand, but it does not write your content, it does not repair your entity consistency and it does not build your authority. Anyone who thinks a subscription automatically leads to more mentions is mistaken. A comparable logic applies to every platform in this segment, as we also describe in our overview of AI visibility tools.
Do you need a tool like Profound?
A GEO tracking tool makes sense as soon as you have a concrete plan to improve your AI visibility, and not as a goal in itself. Measuring without strategy produces nice graphs, but no leads. At Customer Impact, we prefer to steer clients on revenue and qualified enquiries rather than on vanity metrics such as a mention score that looks good in a report.
For most B2B companies we guide, it does not start with the most expensive tool, but with the fundamentals: clearly structured content that AI can extract, consistent information about your brand across the entire web, and authority through mentions in places that AI trusts. A tool like Profound can be a useful measurement layer on top of that, certainly for those who have the budget and take the channel seriously. But the order matters: strategy first, then measurement. Our GEO approach for B2B goes into that more deeply, and we help you become findable in AI search engines by taking that journey, from fundamentals to follow-up, off your hands.
The short summary
Profound is a solid, enterprise-focused AI visibility platform that thoroughly measures your visibility in AI answers across multiple answer engines. The entry point sits around 99 dollars per month for ChatGPT only, and a real multi-platform measurement quickly costs hundreds of dollars per month. For larger teams with budget and a clear GEO strategy, it is a strong choice. For smaller B2B players, it is wiser to invest in the fundamentals first before opting for an expensive measurement tool, because a tool measures your problem but does not solve it.
