GEO Cost: Prices, Pricing Models and Calculation Examples for 2026
Copy for AI
A GEO engagement in the Benelux costs roughly between a few hundred euros per month for monitoring tools and 8,000 euros or more per month for a full retainer, with one-off audits often falling between 900 and 2,500 euros. There is no exact figure, because the price depends entirely on your scope. In this article you will read the realistic price ranges per model, what exactly determines the price, and you can work out through concrete examples what an engagement would cost you. GEO stands for generative engine optimization: making sure AI models like ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity mention your brand. Want to know what that involves first? Then read our guide on what GEO is.
What does GEO cost on average in 2026?
For a professional GEO engagement you pay in the Benelux, indicatively, between 1,500 and 8,000 euros per month, with outliers on the high end for enterprise. International price overviews show a broad spread: from around 1,500 dollars per month for small, simple engagements to 25,000 dollars or more per month for large, competitive brands. The bulk of serious engagements lands between 3,000 and 8,000 euros per month. Boutique agencies in Europe charge, according to those same sources, typically 3,000 to 8,000 euros per month for an ongoing engagement.
That broad range makes sense. GEO is a young field in which the measurement standards are not yet uniform and the platforms change quickly. As a result, what an agency means by “GEO” varies enormously, from some standalone content optimization to a full programme with monitoring, content, technical work and authority building. So never compare on price alone, but always on price and scope together.
There is one thing we want to be honest about: these figures are market indications, not fixed rates. We do not work with standard packages, because no two growth journeys are alike. What you need determines what it costs.
Which pricing models exist for GEO?
There are three common ways GEO is charged: a one-off project or audit, a monthly retainer, and an hourly rate. Which model fits best depends on where you stand and what you want to achieve.
Project or one-off audit. You pay a fixed amount for a defined assignment, for example a baseline measurement of your AI visibility plus a concrete action plan. A productized GEO audit costs in the market, indicatively, between 900 and 2,500 euros. This is ideal if you first want to know where you stand before you invest. For this we offer a complete GEO audit as a logical starting point.
Monthly retainer. You pay a fixed amount per month for ongoing work: monitoring your mentions, creating or rewriting content, technical optimization and authority building. This is the most common model for anyone who wants to grow structurally in AI search results, because GEO is not a one-off intervention but an ongoing process. Expect here the 1,500 to 8,000 euros per month mentioned earlier, depending on scope.
Hourly rate. You pay per hour worked, handy for standalone advisory questions, a sparring session or a defined technical task. Market-standard hourly rates for specialized online marketing work in the Benelux run roughly between 90 and 175 euros per hour, with senior strategic work at the top end. For a full engagement an hourly rate is rarely efficient, because you then lack the direction and the coherence.
For most B2B companies a combination works best: start with an audit, and then move to a retainer with a scope tuned to the findings.
What determines the price of a GEO engagement?
The price of GEO is mainly determined by the size of the work, not by a fixed list of services. Five factors weigh the heaviest.
- The size of your website and content. A site with ten pages requires less work than a knowledge base of hundreds of articles that each have to be made extractable for AI. The more content, the more hours.
- The state of your foundation. If your technical SEO, your structure and your brand consistency are already solid, GEO can build on top of that. If that base is weak, there is work to do first. Entity consistency is a good example: if AI is not sure who you are, it takes more effort to get mentioned.
- Your competition and sector. In a crowded market where competitors are already going all in on AI visibility, more is needed to stand out than in a niche where you are ahead. The approach and cost structure also differ per sector, as we show for GEO for fintech, GEO for B2B wholesale and GEO for B2B webshops.
- The number of AI platforms. Optimizing for only ChatGPT is less work than targeting Perplexity and Google AI Overviews at the same time, each with its own logic.
- The amount of new content and authority building. Creating content and building brand mentions are the biggest cost items. Two to four strong pages per month plus digital PR for citations simply cost more than small technical tweaks.
On top of that, tools count. If you want to keep measuring your AI visibility, software costs are added. These range from a few dozen to more than 1,000 euros per month, depending on the tool. We list the options in our overview of AI visibility tools.
Calculation examples: what does GEO cost in practice?
To make the figures tangible, here are three realistic scenarios for a B2B company in the Benelux. The amounts are indicative and meant to show the order of magnitude, not as a quote.
Example 1: the cautious starter. A small B2B company first wants to know where it stands. You choose a one-off audit of around 1,500 euros, plus a monitoring tool of about 100 euros per month. Total investment in year one: roughly 1,500 euros once and 1,200 euros in tools. You get a clear picture and an action plan, without committing to an engagement right away.
Example 2: the SME that wants to grow structurally. A growing B2B company takes a retainer of 3,500 euros per month: monthly monitoring, two to three optimized pages per month, technical work and authority building. On an annual basis that is 42,000 euros. Substantial, but in B2B where a single well-qualified lead can be a multi-year contract, such an engagement pays for itself as soon as it reaches the right decision-makers.
Example 3: the ad-hoc advice. A company with a strong internal marketing team only wants strategic steering. You buy ten hours of advice per quarter at 150 euros per hour, or 1,500 euros per quarter or 6,000 euros per year. Your team executes it themselves, we keep the course sharp.
What holds in all three cases: the real question is not “what does GEO cost”, but “what does it deliver”. A mention in ChatGPT is only valuable if it moves the right decision-maker to your site and that visitor converts into a conversation. That is why we always steer on leads and revenue, not on vanity figures. That is exactly what our GEO optimization aims at.
Is GEO worth the investment?
GEO is worth the investment if your B2B buyers orient themselves via AI and you want to appear in that answer, but it is not a silver bullet and no guarantee. We never promise a fixed position or a guaranteed number of mentions, because no one can back that up: the platforms change constantly and the measurement methods are still very much in development. What we can do is systematically improve your visibility and honestly show what works.
So rather start small and focused than big and vague. An audit tells you whether there is any chance at all before you enter into a retainer. And if your budget is limited, a focus on one platform and a strong foundation is often wiser than wanting everything at once.
The short summary
GEO costs in the Benelux, indicatively, a few hundred euros per month in tools, 900 to 2,500 euros for a one-off audit, and 1,500 to 8,000 euros or more per month for a retainer. The three pricing models are project, retainer and hourly rate. The price is determined by your site size, your foundation, your competition, the number of AI platforms and the amount of content and authority building. You only get an exact figure once your scope is clear.
