Cheap GEO vs Premium: What Explains GEO Pricing?

Copy for AI

The price difference between cheap and premium GEO rarely comes down to the quality of the craftsmanship, and almost always comes down to scope: cheap engagements usually deliver only technical work and some schema markup, while premium engagements add content, authority building and ongoing monitoring on top of that. A low price is therefore not necessarily a bargain, and a high price not necessarily better. In this article you will learn why GEO pricing varies so much, what you concretely get for a small or large budget, and how to choose what your business actually needs. GEO stands for generative engine optimization: making sure AI models like ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity mention your brand. If you want the basics first, read our guide on what GEO is. For concrete figures and pricing models, see our overview of what GEO costs.

Why does GEO pricing vary so much?

GEO pricing varies so much because “GEO” is not a clearly defined service, but an umbrella term for very different amounts of work. To one agency it means dropping some FAQ schema onto your pages; to another it means building a full programme with content production, technical work and digital PR for brand mentions. Those are two completely different products under the same name, and therefore two completely different prices.

On top of that, GEO is a young field. Measurement standards are not yet uniform and the AI platforms change quickly. In a market like that, there is room for both steeply priced entry packages and expensive enterprise engagements, without the price itself saying much about the result. International pricing overviews therefore show a wide range, from a few hundred euros to many thousands of euros per month.

The lesson: never compare price alone, but always price and scope. Two quotes for roughly the same amount can contain completely different work, and a cheap quote that only covers the technical side is not a fair comparison with a premium engagement that also tackles content and authority.

GEO SCOPE From cheap to premium 1 Technical Audit + schema 2 Optimisation Existing pages 3 Content New pages 4 Authority Digital PR 5 Monitoring Multiple platforms Scope determines the price, not the other way around.
Each layer adds work the previous one does not cover: cheap stops at the bottom, premium spans the whole ladder.

What do you get for a low GEO budget?

For a low budget you generally get the technical foundation of GEO and little more: an audit, some structural work and schema markup, and a handful of optimised existing pages. That is useful work in itself, but it is the beginning, not the whole story.

The risk with the cheapest packages is that they wrap a one-off technical intervention up as an ongoing service. You get, say, some schema and an FAQ block, and after that little happens. The problem is that schema alone does not make your brand authoritative. AI models do not mention you because your code is tidy, but because you give the best answer on substance and because enough trustworthy sources talk about you. Technical work opens the door, but does not walk through it.

Cheap GEO does have a clear place, though. As a baseline or starting point it is actually sensible. A well-scoped complete GEO audit tells you where you stand and whether there is any opportunity at all, before you commit a larger budget. And a monitoring tool of a few tens of euros per month shows you whether your mentions are moving. To see which options exist, check our overview of AI visibility tools. Starting small and focused is almost always better than large and vague.

What does a premium GEO engagement add?

A premium GEO engagement adds the three things technical work cannot deliver: ongoing content production, active authority building and structural monitoring across multiple platforms. That is exactly where the difference in results lies, and therefore in price too.

In practice, premium usually means:

  • Content production at a steady pace. Instead of tweaking existing pages, you create new, in-depth pages every month that answer exactly the questions your buyers ask AI. Producing content is labour-intensive and therefore the biggest cost item, but it is also what gives AI something to cite.
  • Authority building. AI models factor in how often and how reliably others talk about you. Digital PR and building brand mentions take time and relationships, but they weigh more heavily than a tidy technical base.
  • Monitoring across multiple platforms. Optimising for ChatGPT alone is less work than betting on Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews at the same time, each of which has its own logic. Premium means measuring across those platforms and adjusting based on key AI visibility metrics.

Premium is therefore not “the same thing but more expensive”. It is a fundamentally larger scope. The question is not whether more money is better, but whether your situation needs that extra work.

Does cheap GEO end up more expensive?

Cheap GEO only becomes expensive when it gives you a false sense of visibility without AI actually mentioning your brand more often. That is the real trap, not the price itself.

Suppose you buy an entry package that only places schema. On paper you are “doing GEO”, but your mentions do not move, because the content and authority side remain untouched. You then pay for months for the illusion of progress. In that scenario even a free package would have been too expensive, because it cost you time and attention without delivering anything.

At the same time, the reverse holds just as well. An expensive engagement that is broader than your market demands is also wasted money. If you are ahead in a niche market and your foundation is already strong, you do not need an enterprise budget. Cheap or expensive says nothing on its own. What matters is whether the scope fits the work that genuinely needs doing. This is also exactly why GEO is no magic bullet and offers no guarantee: no one can promise a fixed position or a guaranteed number of mentions, whatever the price tag.

How do you choose between cheap and premium?

You do not choose between cheap and premium, you choose the scope that fits where you stand. Five questions help you determine that.

  • How big is your site and content? Many pages that need to become extractable for AI mean more work, and therefore a larger budget.
  • How strong is your foundation? If your technical setup, structure and entity consistency are already in good shape, you can start lighter.
  • How fierce is your competition? In a crowded market where competitors are already going all in on AI visibility, more is needed to stand out.
  • How many platforms do you want to appear on? One platform is a lighter scope than ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews at once.
  • How much new content and authority do you need? This is the biggest cost driver and the most honest distinction between an entry engagement and a full-fledged programme.

For most B2B companies a phased build-up works best: start with an affordable audit, and only move up to a larger engagement when the findings justify it. That way you never pay for scope you do not need. Our GEO approach for B2B is built exactly around this, with a focus on leads and revenue rather than vanity numbers. That is also what our AI search optimisation aims for.

The short summary

The price difference between cheap and premium GEO lies in scope, not in the name of the service. Cheap engagements usually deliver technical work, schema and some optimisation of existing pages, and are ideal as a baseline or starting point. Premium adds ongoing content, authority building and monitoring across multiple platforms, the work that actually prompts AI to mention you. Cheap becomes expensive as soon as it gives you a false sense of visibility, and expensive becomes wasteful as soon as it is broader than your market demands. The right choice is therefore not a price bracket, but the scope that fits your situation.
