Retargeting & Remarketing

Showing ads to people who already know you, to win back visitors who did not yet convert.

By Tanguy De Keyzer · Founder & digital strategist

What is retargeting?

Retargeting (often called remarketing) is the practice of re-approaching people who have already visited you but did not yet convert. Based on a tracking pixel or email list, you show them targeted ads while they keep browsing or use social media.

Why it works

Most visitors do not buy on their first visit, certainly not in B2B with long decision cycles. Retargeting keeps you top of mind during that consideration phase and brings warm visitors back at the moment they are ready.

Retargeting vs. remarketing

The terms are used interchangeably. Strictly speaking, retargeting more often refers to paid ads based on browsing behaviour, and remarketing to email follow-up of existing contacts. In practice they cover the same idea: following up on demand that already exists.
