How do you market accounting software around the Peppol e-invoicing mandate?

Copy for AI

You market accounting software around the Peppol mandate with pages that answer your buyers’ questions literally. What is changing, does it apply to me, how do I switch, which software fits? Those pages rank for searches you currently buy per click. Since the January 2026 deadline, demand is shifting towards receiving, switching and automating.

Your sales team hears the same Peppol questions every week. Yet those buyers find the competitor through Google, or an ad you are paying for. This is how we, as a content marketing agency, build a knowledge base that captures the demand around a new rule. How to keep that kind of content accurate and up to date is covered in regulation as a lead source.

What do you need to know about the Peppol mandate as a software vendor?

Not much, but it has to be right. According to the FPS Finance, since 1 January 2026 all Belgian VAT-registered businesses have had to use structured electronic invoices with each other. A PDF sent by email is not enough. Invoices to consumers are not covered by the mandate. The exchange runs over the Peppol network.

The same page lists exceptions, such as VAT taxpayers not established in Belgium without a fixed establishment and, for sending, businesses in bankruptcy. Those exceptions are exactly what makes good content: “does this apply to me?” is a question your buyers ask.

Cross-border B2B reporting in the EUFrom 1 July 2030Relevant if your buyers invoice internationally

According to the FAQ on e-reporting, e-reporting is in the federal coalition agreement with a 2028 timeline. It still has to be written into legislation. The EU date comes from the European Commission’s ViDA package.

How much search volume is there around Peppol, and what does that click cost?

A lot on the rule itself, little on the buying term. The monthly search volume below is the average of the last twelve months, from Google Ads data (28 September 2026). The cost per click is in dollars.

Search termVolume BelgiumCost per click BelgiumVolume Netherlands
peppol60,500about 7 dollars5,400
e-facturatie1,000about 15 dollars720
e-facturatie verplicht390about 3 dollars90
e-invoicing880about 10 dollars720
peppol software140about 14 dollars20
boekhoudsoftware210about 23 dollars590

Someone searching “peppol” mainly wants to understand what is changing: your largest audience, but not yet a buyer. Someone searching “peppol software” is already comparing. That click is expensive and rare.

A lot of demand sits in what tools measure poorly: long questions such as “can I receive Peppol invoices in my current package?”. That gap between 60,500 and 140 is your opportunity. Most searchers are not buying yet, but they do read, and your page is then the first brand they see.

Which pages do you need around Peppol?

Five page types, each for a different question. Start with what sales already hears.

Page typeBuyer questionWhere it leads
ExplainerWhat changes for my invoicing?Your product as the solution
Applicability checkDoes the mandate apply to me, and to my customers?Demo or trial
Switching checklistHow do I switch without losing invoices?Onboarding or migration help
ComparisonWhich Peppol e-invoicing software fits my type of business?Your pricing page
What is comingWhat does e-reporting in 2028 mean for me?Newsletter or webinar

The comparison is the hardest and the most valuable. For “peppol e-facturatie software”, Google shows questions such as “Which Peppol software is free?” and “What is the cheapest Peppol solution?”. Answer them honestly, even if you are not the cheapest. See comparison pages for SEO.

Do you sell project software or a CRM with an invoicing module? Then your best page is an integration page: “Send Peppol invoices from [your tool]”.

The deadline has passed. Does Peppol content still make sense?

Yes, but with a different question. Before January 2026, businesses searched “is e-invoicing mandatory?”. Now they search for how to receive, switch and process automatically. Those who chose in a hurry now have doubts.

Three groups of buyers are searching for something different today:

BuyerWhat they search for nowPage you build
Those who quickly chose a solution in 2025Automatic processing, connection with the accountingSwitching page: from a standalone Peppol tool to your package
Those who only receiveHow do I get invoices in without extra work?Page about receiving in your software
Flat-rate VAT taxpayersWhat do I have to do by 2028?Applicability check and timeline to 2028

That last group still has time, and that is exactly why now is the moment. A new page needs time to rank. Whoever publishes it now will be there when the questions come.

Keep the page you wrote before 2026 and update it on the same URL. That way your page about the 2026 mandate naturally becomes the page about 2028. How to let such a page grow every year is covered in creating evergreen content.

What does this cost compared to Google Ads?

A click on “peppol software” costs about 14 dollars, and you pay for every click again. A click on “boekhoudsoftware” costs about 23 dollars. A page that ranks for those questions keeps delivering clicks. Work it out yourself with the click or article calculator, or compare with the cost per click by industry.

Do expect to be patient. On customerimpact.be, the level of new pages from week 9 onwards was about three times higher than in weeks 2 to 8. Not every site shows this: one of the six sites we tracked stayed flat. So judge new pages after eight weeks, not after two. More in our guide to becoming less dependent on Google Ads.

A package of 30 articles in Dutch, French and English costs 4,500 euros per month with us, minimum three months. For Peppol, French is not a luxury: your buyers are also in Wallonia and Brussels.

When we are not the right choice

If you only sell to consumers, the Peppol mandate does not affect your buyers. If you mainly need a legal text about what your customers have to do, you need a tax specialist, not a content agency. And if sales cannot pass us a few questions every month, your content will miss what really matters.

Frequently asked questions

Who is Peppol not mandatory for?

According to the FPS Finance, exemptions include: VAT taxpayers not established in Belgium without a fixed establishment and businesses that only carry out exempt transactions under Article 44. Businesses in bankruptcy do not have to send. Flat-rate VAT taxpayers only have to send from 1 January 2028. Turn that list into your applicability check.

Which Peppol software is free?

The government does not offer a free solution itself. It chose a market-based approach, and according to the FPS Finance free applications already exist. So answer the question honestly on your comparison page: for whom is free enough, and when does automatic processing pay off?

Which invoices have to go through Peppol?

Invoices between Belgian VAT-registered businesses, so B2B. The Peppol network is the standard, in the Peppol BIS format, unless the parties agree on something else within the European standard EN16931. Invoices to consumers can still be sent on paper or as a regular PDF. You do have to be able to receive structured invoices from your suppliers.
