Page authority

A tool score that estimates the likely ranking strength of one specific page, not an official Google ranking factor.

Page authority is a score from external SEO tools that estimates how strongly a single page is likely to perform in the search results. As with domain authority: this is a third-party metric, not an official ranking factor that Google itself uses.

What determines page authority?

Where domain authority looks at your entire website, this score zooms in on a single URL. The value depends mainly on the backlinks that point directly to that page, and on the internal links that send value to it. A blog article without a single reference will have a low score, while a heavily linked pillar page scores high. The score is relative and only useful as a comparison between pages within the same tool.

How do you strengthen a specific page?

You lift a page’s authority by sending targeted signals to it. Internal linking from your strongest pages distributes link equity to the URLs you want to rank. Relevant external links from referring domains and thoughtful anchor text do the rest. That way you concentrate strength on the pages that matter commercially.

We use page authority to determine which pages deserve a boost, not to show off. A high score on a page that leads no one toward a quote is worth little for a B2B company. We therefore always tie the metric to a question: does this page bring us closer to a customer?
