Backlink
A link from another website to yours, and one of the strongest trust signals for Google.

What is a backlink?
A backlink is a link from an external website to a page on yours. Google sees such a link as a recommendation: if many relevant, trustworthy sites point to you, the search engine assumes that your page is valuable.
Why backlinks count
Backlinks remain one of the three pillars of SEO (alongside technology and content). They largely determine your authority and therefore how high you rank on competitive keywords.
Quality over quantity
One link from an authoritative, thematically relevant site weighs more heavily than dozens of links from weak or spammy domains. Unnatural, purchased link patterns can even earn you a Google penalty.
