Webflow SEO: the complete checklist for a findable B2B website

Copy for AI

You handle Webflow SEO largely in the interface itself: meta titles, slugs, redirects, sitemap and even a schema field sit in the page and site settings, without you needing a plugin. The platform takes sitemap generation, responsive images and CDN hosting off your plate by default. So the gain is not in “turning Webflow on”, but in the choices you make per page. In this article you work through the complete checklist: where to find each setting, what Webflow does automatically, and where the manual work begins.

If you want the bigger picture of a findable B2B site, read the B2B website development guide first. This page zooms in on the technical SEO settings within Webflow.

What exactly is Webflow SEO?

Webflow SEO is the whole of settings and choices that make a Webflow site properly crawlable, understandable and fast for search engines. The big difference with a platform like WordPress: you do not need a separate SEO plugin, because the core settings are built into the Designer and the site settings.

That is a strength and a pitfall at the same time. A strength because you depend less on plugins that contradict each other or slow your site down. A pitfall because “built in” does not mean “filled in well automatically”. Webflow gives you clean fields, but you still decide what goes in them. Our angle: do not steer toward a green score in a tool, but toward being found by the right B2B buyer and converting them into a lead.

How do you set meta titles and descriptions?

You set the meta title and description per page via the page settings, under the SEO section. For each static page you fill in a unique title and description there. Write the title keyword-first and keep it short enough not to get cut off in the search results.

For CMS collections (think blog articles or service pages) there is a smarter way: in the collection template settings you can bind the meta fields to CMS fields. That way Webflow automatically pulls the item name or a summary field into the meta title and description, for each item separately. That saves an enormous amount of manual work on larger sites. Webflow also recently added AI functionality to fill in missing metadata, but treat that as a starting point and not as a finished product: an AI-generated description often lacks the sharp hook that gets a B2B buyer to click.

Do not forget the Open Graph section, in the same panel. It determines how your pages look when they are shared on LinkedIn or in a newsletter, a detail that in B2B is often the first point of contact.

How do you get clean slugs and URL structure?

You set the slug per page in the page settings, and for CMS items via the slug field of the collection item. A good slug is short, descriptive and contains your most important term, for example /services/webdesign instead of a vague or automatically generated string.

Watch out for two things that hurt later if you ignore them now. One: do not change slugs lightly once a page is indexed, because you then break existing links and rankings. Two: think about your folder structure in advance, because it helps shape how logically your site is built. A well-considered structure helps both visitors and search engines, as we explain in website architecture and SEO. In Webflow you set the hierarchy partly through folders and partly through the structure of your CMS collections.

How do you set up 301 redirects in Webflow?

You manage 301 redirects in the site settings, in the publishing or hosting section, under the redirects area. There you fill in the old path and the new destination. Important to know beforehand: this feature works on paid Webflow plans with a custom domain. On a free webflow.io subdomain you cannot set up redirects.

Webflow also supports bulk import and export of redirects via a CSV file, which makes it workable during a larger restructure. The platform does not enforce a hard maximum, but recommends keeping the number of redirects limited as a best practice.

Redirects are not a detail but your insurance against ranking loss. If you change your URLs or migrate to Webflow, a correct set of 301s prevents built-up authority from evaporating. Read how to handle that cleanly in our guide on website migration without losing rankings.

What does Webflow handle automatically (sitemap and speed)?

Webflow takes a number of SEO fundamentals off your hands by default. The sitemap.xml is generated and updated automatically as soon as you publish pages, so you do not have to maintain it by hand. You can turn on the auto-sitemap in the site settings and then disable indexing per static page with a toggle, for example for a thank-you page you do not want in the index.

On speed too, the platform does a lot out of the box. Uploaded images are served via a global CDN, automatically offered in more modern formats such as WebP, and delivered in responsive variants via the srcset attribute. Images below the fold are lazy loaded by default. That gives you a good baseline, but no free pass: an overly heavy uploaded hero image, too much custom code or heavy external scripts can still drag down your Core Web Vitals. Compress images before you upload them and keep an eye on your page weight. If you want to measure where it pinches, our explainer on Google Lighthouse will help.

Finally, connect your site to Google Search Console to monitor indexing and sitemap status. That is not a Webflow setting, but it is where you see whether all your work is actually being picked up.

How do you add schema markup in Webflow?

You add schema markup (structured data that helps search engines understand your content) in Webflow via a schema field in the page settings or via a code embed in the head. Webflow recently added a specific schema field for this, but you can also still use the classic route: placing a JSON-LD script via the custom code settings of a page.

For CMS template pages it becomes powerful: with a code embed you can inject CMS fields into your JSON-LD, so that every collection item gets its own correct structured data without you filling it in manually per item. That is how you build scalable markup for a blog or a service overview, for example. We explain the principles behind that markup independently of the platform in schema markup and structured data.

When is Webflow the right choice for your B2B site?

Webflow is a strong choice when you want a marketing-driven site with a lot of control over design and a clean SEO baseline without plugin bloat. The platform excels for companies that regularly publish landing pages and content and want to be able to steer visually without needing a developer each time.

At the same time, it is not an automatic winner. Some things that are built in elsewhere require custom code or a paid plan in Webflow, and not every team feels at home in the Designer. We are platform-agnostic: we build in Webflow, WordPress and custom or headless, and which one fits depends on your team, your content volume, your budget and your growth plans, not on the platform itself. You will find a comparable checklist for another stack in WordPress SEO. You can get the technical settings right on any platform; the difference is made by whether the site is aimed at leads. That is why we build conversion-focused websites that turn visitors into inquiries.

The short summary

Webflow gives you the SEO fundamentals built in: meta and slugs per page, redirects on a paid plan, an automatic sitemap, optimized images via CDN and a schema field for structured data. The platform takes the tedious work off your hands, but the substantive input, the structure and the focus on the right buyer remain your responsibility. A technically clean site that is not aimed at leads stays a missed opportunity. Want to know whether Webflow fits your growth plans and how we aim your site at inquiries?
