Webflow hosting explained: what you get and the real costs

Copy for AI

Webflow hosting is a closed, bundled model: you host your Webflow site with Webflow itself by default, for a fixed amount per site per month that covers the hosting, the global CDN and the SSL certificate together. So you cannot run a Webflow site separately with another hosting provider the way you would with WordPress. In this article you’ll read how that model works technically, what the real costs are in 2026, and what the choice means for your speed, control and dependency. This is part of our broader B2B website development guide.

How does Webflow’s hosting model work?

Webflow runs on the cloud infrastructure of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and delivers your published site worldwide via a CDN (content delivery network: a network of servers that keeps your pages close to the visitor). The key difference from classic hosting is that everything is integrated. You build, publish and host within the same platform, without a separate server, FTP or standalone hosting bill.

A few things are included by default and you don’t have to arrange them yourself:

  • SSL certificate. Webflow provides and automatically renews an SSL/TLS certificate for your domain, so your site runs over https without manual installation.
  • CDN delivery. Your static pages and files are served from the CDN, which shortens load times for international visitors.
  • Maintenance and updates. There are no plugins, core updates or server patches that you have to manage. That saves admin work, but it also means you can tinker less with the underlying stack.

That is precisely the heart of the “closed” character: convenience comes in exchange for control. You get a stable, low-maintenance environment, but you stay within the boundaries Webflow draws.

What are the real Webflow hosting costs in 2026?

Since the price and plan change of May 2026, Webflow works with three paid site plans plus a free starter plan, and prices are calculated in US dollars per site per month (plus VAT at checkout). A site plan is what you need to put a site live on your own domain.

At the time of writing, the plans look like this:

  • Starter: free, for prototypes and learning. You publish on a webflow.io subdomain, not on your own domain.
  • Basic: roughly 15 USD per month with annual billing (around 25 USD with monthly billing). Suitable for landing pages and smaller marketing sites without a CMS.
  • Premium: roughly 25 USD per month annually (around 39 USD monthly). This plan bundles the former CMS and Business plans and includes ample CMS capacity for content-rich sites.
  • Enterprise: custom pricing, for sites with heavy traffic, governance requirements or multiple brands.

Watch two things that determine the “real” costs. First, you pay in USD: for a Belgian or Dutch company, VAT is added and the exchange rate comes into play. Second, this is only the site plan. If you want to work in the Designer with multiple people, separate workspace or seat costs are added, and heavy sites may need extra bandwidth. For a professional B2B site, budget with the full picture of site plan plus any seats rather than with the lowest advertised rate.

Compared with WordPress, where hosting is separate and varies widely, Webflow is more predictable: you know in advance what you pay each month. The downside is that you cannot shop around for cheaper hosting, because hosting and platform are inseparably tied together.

What does the closed model mean for speed and performance?

For most B2B sites, the closed model delivers good out-of-the-box speed, because CDN delivery, caching and https are well configured by default. You don’t have to pick a caching plugin or connect a CDN as you would with a self-hosted site. For a marketing site made up mostly of static pages, that is a real advantage.

At the same time, speed is no automatic guarantee. How your site scores on the Core Web Vitals still depends on heavy images, too much custom code, external scripts and how the pages are built. The platform gives you a strong base, but poor build choices still make a Webflow site slow. The infrastructure solves the foundations, not the execution.

An honest caveat: with very dynamic functionality or complex, data-driven applications, you hit the limits of the model sooner than with a custom or headless solution. For a conversion-focused B2B marketing site that mainly needs to deliver content and leads, that is rarely a blocker.

How big is the lock-in and can you leave Webflow?

The dependency is real: because hosting, CMS and platform form one whole, you cannot take a Webflow site as a ready-made package to another host. On the higher plans you can export the code, but that export is a static version. In practice you lose important parts along the way:

  • CMS content is not included: collection lists and collection pages no longer show any data.
  • Forms do not work in the exported code, you need an external form service.
  • Search function and password protection fall away, because they lean on Webflow’s backend.

In other words: leaving is possible, but it is a migration, not a copy action. In practice you rebuild the dynamic parts on a new platform. So plan such a move carefully, especially if your SEO depends on it, so that you keep your rankings after the migration. This lock-in is no reason to write Webflow off, it is a factor you consciously weigh in advance: you trade flexibility for convenience and stability.

When is Webflow hosting the right choice?

Webflow hosting fits well if you want a low-maintenance, out-of-the-box marketing site, with a small team and predictable monthly costs, and you don’t need a heavy custom backend. It takes server management, security updates and SSL entirely off your hands, so you can focus on content and conversion.

It is less suitable when you want full control over your hosting, need complex integrations or your own application layer, or deliberately want to avoid vendor lock-in. In those cases WordPress or a headless/custom setup often weighs more heavily.

We are platform-agnostic: we build in Webflow, WordPress and custom/headless, and we advise based on your goals, team, budget and growth plans, not on a fixed favorite. The question is never “which platform is best”, but “which platform brings you the most leads and revenue at the lowest hassle cost”. Want to spar about the right choice for your case? The short summary

Webflow hosting is a closed, bundled model: hosting, CDN and SSL sit in one fixed plan per site, in 2026 split across Basic, Premium and Enterprise, priced in USD plus VAT. In return you get speed, convenience and little admin work. Against that stands vendor lock-in: an exit is a real migration, not a simple move. Whether that is worth it depends on your team, your content needs and your growth plans, not on the platform itself.
