Webflow maintenance: what it costs and what you need to do

Copy for AI

Webflow maintenance is in most cases lighter and cheaper than maintaining a WordPress site, because Webflow is a hosted platform without core updates and without plugins you have to update manually. But lighter does not mean zero: there are still tasks that someone has to keep up, from content and forms to performance and accessibility. In this article you will read what Webflow maintenance involves exactly, why it is less work than WordPress, which tasks really remain, how backups and version control work, and roughly what it costs.

What does Webflow maintenance involve exactly?

Webflow maintenance is the whole set of tasks that keeps your site safe, fast and up to date once it is live. The big difference with a self-hosted site is that the heavy technical layer sits with Webflow itself. Hosting, servers, SSL certificates and the CMS run as a managed service (SaaS), so you do not have to do anything about them.

What remains is mainly the content and functional side: keeping your content up to date, keeping your forms and integrations working, watching your load time and checking whether your site still does what it is meant to do, namely turn visitors into leads. That distinction, platform versus content, explains why Webflow maintenance has a different character than WordPress maintenance.

Why is Webflow cheaper to maintain than WordPress?

The core is simple: in Webflow there are no plugins and no core updates you have to manage manually. With WordPress that is precisely the biggest recurring cost. A typical WordPress site runs on a collection of plugins that each have their own updates, security patches and compatibility risks. Every time you update, there is a chance that two components clash or that something breaks after an update, so you have to test before you go live.

Webflow works differently. The functionality (CMS, forms, animations, interactions) is built into the platform and updated centrally by Webflow, without your site breaking as a result. There is no plugin ecosystem to audit, no list of vulnerabilities from external components to keep track of, and no server configuration to harden. Security and certificates are handled at the infrastructure level.

For a B2B organisation without its own technical team, that means real maintenance work saved, and therefore money. It is fair to say, though, that WordPress can partly offset this with well-managed hosting and a strict plugin policy. The difference does not then disappear, but it does shrink. Which maintenance tasks then remain?

On Webflow too there is still work, it just shifts from technical platform management to content and conversion. The tasks that remain in practice:

  • Updating content. Adding new blog articles, case studies, job openings or product pages via the CMS. This is ongoing work and helps determine your findability.
  • Following up forms and leads. Checking whether your forms work, whether leads come in correctly and land in your CRM or mailbox. A silently broken form directly costs you enquiries. Our guide on optimising forms for conversion helps you further here.
  • Watching integrations. External connections (analytics, CRM, marketing tools, embeds) stay dependent on third parties. If a tool changes its API or script, you have to follow.
  • Following up performance. Large images, heavy embeds or too many scripts can undermine your load time. Watching your Core Web Vitals therefore stays a maintenance task, even though Webflow hosts fast.
  • Accessibility and compliance. New content must stay accessible (think of alt texts, contrast, structure). Look at which common accessibility mistakes you want to avoid.
  • SEO hygiene. Internal links, redirects for deleted pages and metadata stay your responsibility, not the platform’s.

The pattern is clear: Webflow largely takes over the technical maintenance, but the content and strategic work that makes your site generate leads stays human work.

How do backups and version control work in Webflow?

Webflow automatically keeps a version history of your site, and you can also name a backup yourself as a recognisable point before you make a big change. If you want to go back to an earlier state, you can restore a previous version. That is a strong point for maintenance: you experiment with less risk, because a misstep can be undone.

Still, there are two nuances you should know. First, version control applies at the level of your design and pages, not as a replacement for a considered way of working: anyone who works in a live site without agreements can still overwrite content. Second, your CMS data lives inside Webflow. If you really want platform-independent copies (for example an export of your CMS content for your own archive), plan that deliberately. For most B2B sites the built-in version history is more than enough, but it is good to know where the limits lie.

What does Webflow maintenance cost?

The fixed, unavoidable cost is the Webflow Site plan, which is billed in dollars. Since the plan simplification of 2026 there are, for most business sites, two paid tiers: the Basic plan, which starts around 15 dollars per month with annual billing, and the Premium plan, which brings together the former CMS and Business plans and starts around 25 dollars per month with annual billing. Paying monthly is higher. A content-rich B2B site that uses the CMS is usually on the Premium tier. On top of that, count on a Workspace plan and any extras (for example additional users), which makes the total platform cost in practice higher than the bare plan amount. Want to know exactly what you get for that Site plan and what the real costs are? We work that out in Webflow hosting explained.

In addition there is the optional cost: time or a budget for further development. Because even though the technical maintenance is minimal, you will want to keep improving your site. Some companies do that themselves in an hour a week, others work with a fixed monthly budget at a partner for content, optimisation and adjustments. That cost depends entirely on how actively you want to let your site grow, not on the platform itself. A fair comparison with other platforms can be found in our guide on having a B2B website built.

When is Webflow not the cheapest choice?

Webflow is not automatically the cheapest solution for every case, and naming that honestly is part of good advice. The platform plan is a recurring cost that you can in theory get lower with some self-hosted setups, provided you can handle the technical maintenance yourself with ease. If you have a team that manages WordPress and its plugins in its sleep, Webflow’s maintenance advantage is smaller. If, on the other hand, you have no technical profile in-house and you mainly want calm and predictability, Webflow more than makes up for its monthly cost with the management work saved.

So it depends on your team, your content volume, your growth plans and how much custom work you need. We are platform-independent: we choose the platform that suits your situation and goals, not the other way around. On our page on website development you can read how we make that trade-off together with you.

The short summary

Webflow maintenance is, for most B2B organisations, lighter and cheaper than WordPress maintenance, because there are no core updates and no plugins to manage or secure. The technical work largely falls away, but content, forms, integrations, performance, accessibility and SEO stay tasks that someone has to keep up. The fixed cost is a Webflow Site plan billed in dollars, with a freely chosen budget for further development on top. Whether Webflow is the right and cheapest choice depends on your team, your content and your growth ambition.
