SSL certificate

Digital certificate that encrypts the traffic between your website and the visitor, responsible for the padlock and the https in the address bar.

By Tanguy De Keyzer · Founder & digital strategist

An SSL certificate is a digital certificate that encrypts the connection between your website and the visitor. It is responsible for the padlock in the address bar and for the https in front of your domain name, so that data going back and forth cannot be read by third parties.

What does an SSL certificate do?

Without encryption, all data between browser and server travels as readable text across the internet. If someone fills in a contact form or logs in, that information can be intercepted. An SSL certificate encrypts that traffic, making intercepted data unusable. It also confirms that the visitor is really talking to your server and not to a forged intermediary. Browsers nowadays show sites without a certificate with an emphatic warning, which immediately makes visitors doubt.

Why is SSL important for SEO?

Google confirmed years ago that https is a light ranking factor, so a missing certificate works against your SEO. Even more important is the effect on trust: a warning that your site is “not secure” drives visitors away before they read anything at all. A certificate is usually set up quickly and has hardly any impact on your page speed. Many services, including most CDN providers, even supply it as standard. Do make sure that your internal links and URL structure consistently point to the https version.

Why this matters for your growth

At Customer Impact, we see trust as the basis of every B2B conversion. A decision-maker who leaves their company data wants to be sure it is safe. An SSL certificate is then not a technical formality, but a precondition to be taken seriously at all. Just like strong customer reviews, it is a quiet signal that you are trustworthy.

From theory to growth.

We turn SSL certificate into measurable results for your business.
