Is AI content bad for your SEO?

Not automatically. Google judges quality and usefulness, not who wrote it. Sloppy, unchecked AI content does harm you; well-edited content can perform just fine.

By Tanguy De Keyzer · Founder & digital strategist

No, AI content is not automatically bad for your SEO. Google judges whether a page is useful, accurate and trustworthy, not whether a human or a model wrote the first version. The risk sits in mass, uncontrolled publishing, not in the use of AI itself.

What does Google disapprove of then?

Google acts against content that only exists to rank and adds no real value, regardless of how it was made. AI content that gets published verbatim and in bulk quickly falls under that: thin texts, repetition, factual errors and no own insight. Such pages lose trust and visibility. The problem is therefore quality and intent, not the tool.

How do you make AI content strong?

By using AI as a starting point and not as an end product. Add your own experience, examples and facts that a model does not know, and check everything for accuracy. That way you strengthen your E-E-A-T: the signals around experience, expertise, authoritativeness and trustworthiness that decide whether search engines and AI engines take you seriously. Well-edited content often performs better than hurried manual work, precisely because the base is in place faster and the attention goes to the substance. You can read more about this in the guide on AI content and SEO.

Does this also work for AI visibility?

Yes. The same quality that Google values also helps you in AI answers. Engines cite sources that are clear, factual and trustworthy. That is the core of GEO: content that is easy to understand and cite, regardless of who typed the first draft. See also why SEO stays relevant now that there are AI search engines.

What does Customer Impact do with AI content?

We deploy AI where it saves time, but never without human oversight and subject knowledge. Every text must be correct, add something and connect to what a buyer really wants to know. We work exclusively for B2B, with a small and fast team, and choose content that leads to enquiries, not volume that undermines your authority.
