Testing two variants against each other to determine, with data, which performs better.

What is A/B testing?

With A/B testing you show two variants (A and B) to comparable groups of visitors and measure which performs better on a goal: more clicks, more purchases, more sign-ups. This replaces opinions with evidence.

Why it works

“I think this button is better” becomes “this button converts 18% higher”. By changing one element at a time, you know for certain what the difference is down to. Many small wins stack up into big growth.

Good practice

Test one variable at a time, run the test long enough for statistical reliability, and build on the winner. A/B testing is the engine under the experimental approach of growth marketing.
